AXIS adds advanced PFD/MFD/EIS capabilities while also greatly simplifying your panel installation. Optional built-in IFR navigation and communication functions put essential tools for flight into a single display system.
AXIS 11.6″ inch flight displays offer the option for built-in IFR GPS, NAV/COMM or COMM radios and audio panel with 4-place intercom. This integrated display offers the essential capabilities you require for flight — even without a traditional radio stack.
AXIS 11.6″ PFD and MFD “BASIC”
The AXIS 11.6″ displays come in three versions. The basic version (GDU116B) includes a VFR GPS. The Com version (GDU116C) includes an integrated IFR GPS and Com radio. The Nav/Com version (GDU116NC) includes an integrated IFR GPS and NAV/COM radio.
If you already have upgraded your center radio stack, then replacing the 6-Pack or PFD/ MFD is the simplest upgrade. The above picture is our Cirrus presented this year at Oshkosh as the first “certified” aircraft to be AXIS equipped. It as dual 11.6″ Basic AXIS displays and a GTN radio stack with GFC500 Autopilot.

GARMIN SMART PANEL UPGRADE FOR THE CIRRUS

AXIS 11.6″ PFD and MFD “COM or NAV/COM”
If you have not upgraded your radio stack and want to have nothing in the radio stack or add a AXIS 8″ Portrait (GDU80P) Garmin has you covered. Replacing your 6-Pack or PFD/MFD with AXIS displays that have integrated IFR GPS and NAV/COM radios, allow you to remove your existing radio rack.
This leaves a lot of space in the center stack but could make sense from a cost standpoint with the value of the trade in equipment.
The reason we did it this way on our aircraft was to make room for the third display, the 8″ GDU80P which will be ready first quarter 2027.
Once we returned from Oshkosh we got to work doing just that.
AXIS 11.6″ PFD and MFD 1 “NAV/COM” and 8″ Portrait MFD 2
Note: The GDU80P release date is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. The picture to the right was to confirm fitment in the Cirrus only.
The 8″ GDU80P is configured as MFD 2. It provides you with a “glass” keyboard. It gives you an easy arms reach control to do your flight planning, audio selections and basically anything else you would normally do through MFD 1.
A big plus to this configuration is that the depth of the GDU80P is so shallow that there are no interface issue with cable housings and other items that have plagued the Cirrus rack when squeezing in larger / deeper radio racks like the GTN750.
AXIS Standard and Enablement Options
The AXIS Base system safety features like Synthetic Vision/3D SafeTaxi®, SmartGlide™, and Runway Occupancy Awareness are included standard without extra enablement purchase.
There are three enablement options that Garmin offers for the AXIS Flight Display System
OPTIONS :
$1,749: Garmin SurfaceWatch™ is an optional runway monitoring and alerting technology integrated into the AXIS flight display system to enhance airport terminal safety.
Key Features of SurfaceWatch on AXIS
- Runway & Taxiway Alerts: Warns the flight crew if the aircraft is aligned to take off or land on a taxiway or the wrong runway, providing an aural and visual “check runway” annunciation.
- Distance Remaining Callouts: Displays real-time remaining runway distance data on the Primary Flight Display (PFD) during takeoff rolls and landing rollouts.
- Runway Too Short Warnings: Allows pilots to input takeoff and landing distance performance data during preflight, triggering alerts if the designated runway is insufficient for the aircraft.
- PFD Info Box Integration: Enables detailed, real-time airport environment info directly on the primary flight window while taxiing.
$1,925: Jeppesen ChartView is a subscription-based digital database that provides high-resolution, full-color interactive terminal procedure charts—including approach plates, airport diagrams, and SIDs/STARs—designed to match traditional Jeppesen paper formats.
$7,389: TAWS-B is an optional certified Terrain Awareness and Warning System (Class B) software enablement for the Garmin AXIS Integrated Flight Display system. It satisfies strict TSO-C151d Class B requirements, providing critical visual annunciations and voice alerts to reduce the risk of Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) and obstacle collisions.

DUAL 11.6″ “Basic” AXIS Displays (PFD/MFD-EIS) $80,000
This Cirrus AXIS Configuration keeps your existing center stack of Navigators (GTN Xi), Audio Panel, and Transponder.

- GFC500 Autopilot with GI275 Backup ADI
Assumptions: All removed equipment during the upgrade will be kept as trade. Aircraft assumed to have Entegra PFD/MFD.
NexAir Avionics will remove existing PFD, MFD, Engine Instruments, and SIU/DAU as required. A new instrument panel will be fabricated and installed with Garmin 11.6″ AXIS displays and Glove Box on the right side if needed. Instrument panel, throttle quadrant, and bolster instrument area will be covered with NexAir vinyl carbon overlays.
